Monterrey, Nuevo León Prison Riot Claims The Lives of 52 Men

By | February 15, 2016

This past Wednesday (February 10th) saw a violent riot in the prison in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. The melee was between two competing cartel groups vying for control of the prison.  The ZETAS control this prison, and there were 52 people who lost their lives in this riot; lives that can never be touched again with the message of the Gospel.

We had a wonderful service the following day at the prison in Reynosa, Tamaulipas .  Although we don’t minister in the Monterrey prison the activities there still have their ripple effect on other prisons. You see, the same cartels are in the other prisons and when events like this take place there is always the fear of retribution.  There was a heavy cautious spirit of anxiety hanging over the inmates in Reynosa as they were waiting to see what affects it may have.  Please remember to keep these men and women in your prayers.  It is sad, but many times situations like these do open up opportunities to share the Gospel with people that normally wouldn’t be open to conversation.
